چکیده

In this paper we present a method of buoyancy-driven centripetal pumping utilizing a heavy, waterimmiscible liquid to displace an aqueous sample radially inwards against the prevailing centrifugal force. Using formerly introduced dissolvable-film valving, we demonstrate metering and bidirectional periodical pumping of a single sample in the radial direction. We then show integrated sample discretisation, metering and buoyancy-driven inward pumping in a microfluidic structure designed towards multi-parameter bioassays. This structure permits centrifugation of sample on the periphery of a disc (where the centrifugal field p) and proves a high degree of metering accuracy better than 1.2%.

KEY WORDS (Times New Roman, 12 Points, Capital, Bold; Style: Titre1)

Centrifugal microfluidic systems bear great potential for applications where ruggedness, portability, ease-of-use, and cost efficiency are critical. However, due to the unidirectional nature of the centrifugal pumping force, the number of sequential process steps which can be integrated on these “Lab-on-a-Disc” (LoaD) devices is limited by their finite radial extension. To significantly widen t...

Irreversibility Analysis of MHD Buoyancy-Driven Variable Viscosity Liquid Film along an Inclined Heated Plate Convective Cooling

Analysis of intrinsic irreversibility and heat transfer in a buoyancy-driven changeable viscosity liquid along an incline heated wall with convective cooling taking into consideration the heated isothermal and isoflux wall is investigated. By Newton’s law of cooling, we assumed the free surface exchange heat with environment and fluid viscosity is exponentially dependent on temperature. Appropr...

Linear and Nonlinear Stratified Spindown over Sloping Topography

In a stratified rotating fluid, frictionally driven circulations couple with the buoyancy field over sloping topography. Analytical and numerical methods are used to quantify the impact of this coupling on the vertical circulation, spindown of geostrophic flows, and the formation of a shelfbreak jet. Over a stratified. slope, linear spindown of a geostrophic along-isobath flow induces cross-iso...

Effects of Viscosity Variations on Buoyancy-Driven Flow from a Horizontal Circular Cylinder Immersed in Al2O3-Water Nanofluid

The buoyancy-driven boundary-layer flow from a heated horizontal circular cylinder immersed in a water-based alumina (Al2O3) nanofluid is investigated using variable properties for nanofluid viscosity. Two different viscosity models are utilized to evaluate heat transfer enhancement from a cylinder. Exact analytic solutions of the problem are attained employing a novel...

Modeling and motion control of a hybrid-driven underwater glider

Present study consists a mathematical model and motion control analysis for a hybrid-driven underwater glider, which can be propelled by using buoyancy and propeller with an addition of wings and a rudder that can be controlled independently. Thus, it can overcome the constraints of speed and maneuverability that was normally possessed by the fixed-winged buoyancy-driven underwater glider. Math...
